In need of a corporate soul mate. Any takers?

“They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” This is a quote by Carl W. Buechner. Any great leader or inspiring leader will understand this quote. Scott Aylward and Patty Moore used this quote in their book Confessions from the Corner Office: 15 Instincts That Will Help You Get There, which is about leadership and success.
Being a great leader with the right frame of mind and instincts is how Aylward and Moore says will get you to the “corner office.” The corner office is a metaphor they use for success. The corner office represents the title of “I’ve made it.” Moving up the corporate ladder and being a successful leader is something we all want in our careers and Aylward and Moore know a lot about being successful leaders.
Aylward and Moore have worked together for more then 10 years and have 50 plus years of combined experience in the corporate world. They both have worked for top companies and made huge accomplishments within them. Aylward grew the ad agency Barkley Evergreen and Partners to one of the 50 largest ad agencies in the U.S. and Moore grew Sonic from $900 million to $3 billion in system-wide sales. You can read more about Aylward and Moore here http://www.kaspublicity.com/pr/confessions/AylwardandMooreBios.pdf. In those years of working together Aylward and Moore became corporate soul mates. They decided to write Confessions from the Corner Office to help up-and-coming leaders, like myself, in our careers.
This book covers 15 instincts that Aylward and Moore feel a leader should have. They say these instincts can be learned and should be practiced as often as possible when in a leadership role. One of the first things Aylward and Moore talk about in their book is finding a corporate soul mate. A corporate soul mate is a person or persons; it can be more than one, that you go to for advice, you look up to, someone that knows your line of work, the person you call when you have a great idea, and someone that can help you succeed as well as move up the corporate ladder and vice versa.
This is a good book to read. Every great leader has a partner in crime, mentor, advisor or someone to help them. Forbes.com has an article on 10 leadership lessons and having a mentor/partner is number four  http://www.forbes.com/sites/sap/2013/04/08/10-leadership-lessons-i-wish-i-learned-in-my-20s/
In my opinion I found this book to be very useful. Being a junior in college and a person who wants to get to the corner office one day in my career, this book gave me insight to things I can start practicing and become aware of now. The strengths of this book are not just the personal trials and tribulations that Aylward and Moore share, but the 15 instincts themselves. Most of these instincts are common everyday things that we simply let slip through and ignore, especially as we gain more power. It all comes down to how you treat people. Aylward and Moore summarize a leader as a person who treats others how he or she wants to be treated.

This book is a great tool to have and read as you journey through your career and become successful. Aylward and Moore have a lot of experience and I would love for them to make a sequel to this book offering more guidance and tips to up-and-coming leaders like myself. I became so inspired by Confessions from the Corner Office that I went and researched more tips and advice on being a great leader. Here are two great articles and a blog on leadership.

I would advice everyone to read Confession from the Corner office: 15 Instincts That Will Help You Get There because you will gain great knowledge from two very successful leaders Aylward and Moore and it can help get you to your “corner office.”
